IAD 2013

Uncovering better ways of developing software

Venue

The 2012 edition is organised with the support of the Department of Computer Science of the University of Milan and hosted in the main building of the University (a.k.a. “Statale” University) in via Festa del Perdono 7 in the heart of Milan. Plenary sessions will take part in the University Auditorium (Aula Magna) while parallel tracks will be arranged in adjacent rooms in the same building.

The historical University building is located at a walking distance from central Piazza Duomo. Closest metro station (MM or Metropolitana Milano) is MM Missori on line M3, the “yellow line” according to the colour code. From Missori Square it’s a 500 meter walk to the University, approx. 800 meters from Duomo (M1 or M3 line).

Bus (number 54, 60, 73, 84, 94) and tram lines (12, 14, 15, 16, 23, 24, 27) have stops in the vicinity of the University site.

HOW TO REACH MILAN AND IAD 2012

By rail, station Milano Centrale or Milano Rogoredo

Using metro line M3 (“yellow line”) up to the Missori stop, from there a short walk.

By rail, station Milano Porta Garibaldi

Using metro line M2 (“green line”) to Centrale, from there line M3 (“yellow line”) up to the Missori stop, and then a short walk.

By rail, station Milano Cadorna

Using metro line M1 (“red line”) to Duomo, and a walk from there, or line M2 (“green line”) to Centrale, from there line M3 (“yellow line”) up to the Missori stop, and then a short walk.

By air

From Milan Linate airport (IATA: LIN, mostly used from Italian and European cities) the city centre is easily reachable with the bus 73 or 73X – the second making no intermediate stops – ending at San Babila. From there the University site can be reached with a 600 meter short walk. Tickets can be purchased by automatic machines at the stop and cost 1,50€ each. A taxi ride to the University would cost approx. 15-20€.
The intercontinental airport Milano Malpensa (MXP) is split between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, T1 hosting international flights while T2 is home to low cost flights to Europe and Italy, especially used by easyJet. The railway station of Milano Centrale can be reached from both terminals using a bus service (operated by various companies) in 50 minutes and costing 10€ one way (16€ return, tickets can be purchased onboard). T1 is equipped with a railway station with trains going to Milano Cadorna (Malpensa Express, every half hour taking 30-35 minutes) and Milano Centrale (less frequent, takes 45 minutes). T1 and T2 are linked with a free shuttle service.

A taxi ride from Malpensa airport to any address inside Milan (including the University) costs the fixed price of 90€.

Once you reach a railway station you can follow the instructions stated above.

The airport of Bergamo-Orio al Serio (BGY) can be used to reach Milan and it’s widely used by low budget airlines. A bus service takes travellers to Milano Centrale station in one hour, every 30 minutes. From Milano Centrale you can follow the instructions above.

By car

Given the central location of the University in Milan, car access and especially parking can be difficult. The best option would be to leave the car either at a free metro/car exchange parking outside the city or at a garage immediately near the conference site. A list of garages and parking lots will be posted soon including special price agreements if available. Toll access to the city center (i.e. “Area C”) won’t be in effect being the conference day a Saturday.
